Kelly Coulson didn’t lose a game in sweeping her three singles sets, and the San Marcos doubles teams went 9-0 in the Royals’ 15-3 non-league girls tennis win over Carpinteria on Wednesday.
“I was happy how the doubles teams played, they all served well, were consistent with their groundstrokes and were aggressive at the net,” said San Marcos coach Fred Hartzman. “We got off to a big lead and I was able to play 14 girls, which I was happy to be able to do.”
San Marcos improves to 4-1 and plays host to Santa Barbara in a Channel League match on Tuesday.
Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant was disappointed his team didn’t play better.
“We kind of took a step back today in our progress as we just had a hard time gaining any type of momentum in many of our sets,” he said. “Our doubles struggled as we did not have a single team get more than one game in any set. I know we can compete better and am hoping they know they can compete better.”
Carpinteria falls to 0-5.
