In just its second match of the season, Cate edged Rio Mesa on Thursday, 11-7, in a match against the No. 3-ranked team in CIF Division 3.
Cate won the first round 5-1 and held on to the advantage by playing the final two rounds evenly.
Rio Mesa is led by freshman Jupneet Singh, who swept her three singles sets.
Cate was buoyed by two three-set sweeps in doubles. The teams of Summer Christensen/Eva Herman and Emma Liberman/Cecelia Sanborn were perfect on the day.
Cate improves to 2-0 on the season while Rio Mesa falls to 4-2.
