Three players shot in the 70s, leading Dos Pueblos to the championship at the Simi Valley Golf Tournament on Monday at Simi Hills Golf Club.
Freshman Gabby Minier led the way for the Chargers with a 72. She was followed by Bella Vigna and Megan Caird with 77s and Julia Forster with an 81 for a total of 307.
The tournament consisted of 11 four-person teams. Oaks Christian was second with a 316 and Granada Hills came in third at 318. The Chargers lost to Oaks Christian earlier in a dual match.
“I was really proud of our girls for doing so well in a tournament with so many other great teams,” DP coach Dan Choi said. “Oaks Christian already showed us earlier this year how good of a team they are when we lost to them at home. This was a great way for the girls to show that they can compete with the best in our area and gain some confidence.”
The Chargers arrived late at the tournament because of an accident on the freeway. Choi said they had no time to warm up.
“They all did such a great job taking a deep breath and settling down and getting to work right away. It is really hard to swing and putt cold. Usually it would take at least a couple of holes to settle down and find a groove.”
Minier’s score was second best overall by just one stroke.
