Carolin Chang carded a 1-under 71 on Monday and SBCC edged Citrus by four shots to remain unbeaten in women’s golf this season.
Chang was the medalist in WSC No. 2, topping the field by three shots on a warm, humid, rainy day at the Santa Barbara Golf Club. The freshman from Taiwan won by three shots.
Isabella Doub added a 77 for Santa Barbara, which totaled 321. Citrus was second at 325 and Canyons shot 326. The Vaqueros were missing one of their top players, Vanesa Villa, who was out with an injury.
Santa Barbara went 5-0 on the day, raising its WSC record to 10-0 and its overall mark to 26-0.
SBCC coach Chuck Melendez picked up his 400th WSC victory. He’s 404-167-1 in 16 seasons with five WSC titles and a winning percentage of .707. He guided the Vaqueros to three State championships in 2006, 2008 and 2013.
“Carolin had another great day,” Melendez said. “She’s so steady. That was her fourth under-par effort in five rounds this year.”
SBCC will compete in WSC No. 3 on Monday at College of the Canyons.
