Clinton Hall accounted for four first-half touchdowns in Cate’s 49-8 non-league victory over Fulton Prep on Saturday.
Hall broke out for a 65-yard touchdown run on the Rams’ first possession and added two more scoring runs and a touchdown throw to Keller Mochel as the Rams took a 28-8 lead at halftime. After Hall’s first touchdown, Fulton Prep responded with their only TD of the game, taking an 8-7 lead.
Pierce Lundt recorded Cate’s first second-half touchdown to make the score 35-8. Then it was Max Vasquez putting the icing on the cake with a long TD run. Mochel, Isaiah Washington, Dean Smith and Jacob Meyer made plays on defense to help Cate secure the season-opening victory.
“It was a great start to the season for us,” reported Rams assistant coach Dave Soto. “Our players worked very hard this summer to prepare themselves for what we hope is going to be a long and successful season. Our leaders stepped up big time today. I’m proud of all of our players and hope we ride this momentum as the season continues.”
Cate plays next on Friday, September 19 against Coast Union. The game will be played at 7 p.m. at Carpinteria High School.
