Dos Pueblos couldn’t hold off Pacifica in the fourth quarter and dropped a 38-24 decision in a season-opening football game Friday night in Oxnard.
The Tritons erupted for 31 points in the fourth quarter to overcome a 17-0 halftime deficit.
Running back Torrey Davis ran for three touchdowns and gave Pacifica the lead, 31-24, on a 68-yard dash with 2:09 remaining in the game. Pacifica quarterback Tajh Aaron had a 48-yard run for the final TD with 58.9 seconds left. The final score was setup by a Thomas Duckett interception.
Playing a no-huddle offense for the first time under coach Nate Mendoza, Dos Pueblos jumped out to a 17-0 lead. Quarterback Kellen Roberts completed 17 of 30 passes for 269 yards, and Irvin Miguel scored a pair of touchdowns on a 2-yard run and an 11-yard pass.
After Pacifica scored to make it 17-7, Isaac Lopez of Dos Pueblos scored on a 2-yard fumble recovery run with 4 seconds left in the third quarter to make it 24-7.
Then Pacifica caught fire and never let up.
