Santa Barbara High senior right-hander Kevin Gowdy was selected to the 20-man USA Baseball 18-Under National Team and will be going to Japan to compete in the WBSC U-18 World Cup next week.
Gowdy was one of 20 players named to the roster following the completion of the final phase of trials at Cal State Fullerton.
Gowdy, a UCLA commit, has had a busy summer. He pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers team in the Area Code Games in Long Beach and played in the Perfect Game All-American Classic at Petco Par in San Diego.
Gowdy commented on making the USA team on his Twitter account: “Honored to have made the 18U National Team and play for our country. Time to get to work in Japan.”
The U-18 Baseball World Cup is being played in Nishinomiya, Japan, Aug. 26-Sept. 6.
