The Santa Barbara Foresters took advantage of some sloppy defensive play by the St. Joseph (Mo.) Mustangs to break a 3-3 tie in sixth inning and went on to post a 10-3 victory in a second-round game of the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan.
The defending champions scored three runs in the sixth and added two more runs in the seventh inning. Robby Massar closed out the scoring with a two-run homer in the eighth. Massar, a base coach for the team, was activated as a player following an injury to Connor McManigal.
Johnny Brontsema had three hits to lead the Santa Barbara attack. Tyler Neslony contributed two hits and an RBI and Michael Smith had a double, a triple and drove in two. Tylor Megill notched the victory in relief of starter Glenn Otto.
The Foresters, 2-0, return to action on Tuesday.
