Champions were crowned in five divisions in the inaugural Santa Barbara Volleyball Club Beach Bash youth doubles tournament at East Beach on Saturday.
The tournament drew 30 teams, with the winners earning an entry into the USA Junior Beach Tour’s West Coast Championships on Aug. 19-20.
Devon Randolph and Alison Minnich booked their ticket to the West Coast Championships by winning the girls 14s title. They defeated Grace Matthews and Ingrid Blau.
In the girls 16s final, the San Marcos combination of Lauren Orlich and Isabel Bassi beat Santa Barbara High’s Erika Foreman and Linnea Skinner.
The Laguna Blanca duo of Maddy Nicholson and Phoebe Madsen captured the girls 18s title over Sarah Kang (San Marcos) and Tatum Vedder (SBHS).
In boys competition, Laguna Blanca’s Andrew Tolles and Charlie McNeil defeated Dan Willet and John Herrera for the 16s title.
The 18s crown went to the duo of Cord Pereira (SBHS) and Blake Lockhart (Santa Ynez). They defeated the Dos Pueblos pair of Eli Wopat and Eliot Brainerd in the final.
Tournament and SBVC beach volleyball director Dillan Bennett was pleased to see several indoor players come out and play on the sand.
“I believe, like our budding program, this event will continue to grow and will hopefully attract all of our local Santa Barbara talent, as well as teams from other beach volleyball communities statewide,” he said.
