Santa Barbara High crushed Hueneme, 64-8, on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
Sean Babcock had two rushing touchdowns and the Dons defense added two more in the first half alone as the Santa Barbara built a 43-0 lead by halftime. Dons senior quarterback Brent Peus threw for two touchdowns in the half, finding Mason Bigelow for a 6-yard score and then Blake Kelley for a 10-yard catch.
Jeremiah Nicholson relieved Peus in the second half and tossed a touchdown and ran for another. Nicholson hooked up with Chris Jellison for a long 50-yard connection. The Dons, who got another second-half TD from Ruben Velez, led 64-0 after Jellison’s TD.
Santa Barbara (1-0) moves on to face Santa Maria next Friday. The Dons’ home opener is the following week against Channel Islands.
