Anika Wilson has been named a high school beach volleyball All-American honorable mention choice by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
The AVCA selected four players to its All-American team and eight as honorable mention. The four honorees are Ashley Allmer and Macy Jerger of Florida and Abril Bustamante and Skylar Caputo of California.
The honorable mention list is comprised of Wilson, Kaity Bailey, Grace Campbell, Isabelle Carey, Zana Muno and Rachel Wilson of California and Carly Schnieder and Katie Smith of Ohio.
Wilson, who graduated from San Marcos in June, is headed to Pepperdine on a beach volleyball scholarship.
On the sand this year, she won the USA Junior Beach Championships and AAU Dockweiler Open with Carey as her partner, and captured the AAU Santa Monica Open with Bailey. She and Bailey finished second at the AAU Beach Junior National U18 Championships (against Allmer and Jerger) and took ninth at the AAU Junior Olympics. Wilson and Carey also took a second at a USA Junior Beach event.
This is the second year the AVCA has named a high school beach volleyball All-American team. The committee picking the players is comprised of Cindy Phillips (Florida/East Coast), Steve Bishop (Florida), Scott Stover (Texas/Central), Jeff Smith (California/West Coast) and Gino Grajeda (California/West Coast).
