Three local teams qualify for Rox Volleyball Cal Cup

Three teams from Santa Barbara won their divisions Tuesday at the California Beach Volleyball Association Rox Tour event at East Beach and earned invitations to the Cal Cup Championships in August at the Manhattan Beach Pier.

Cooper Johnson and Santa Barbara High teammate Rowan Peake outlasted Laguna Blanca’s Philip Fauntleroy and Pierce O’Donnell to book their Cal Cup tickets in the Boys 18-under division.

In the Boys 12U final, local Matthew Suh combined with Noah Keelin of San Juan Capistrano to defeat the local team of Dylan Foreman and Alex Rottman.

The lone local girls team to win on Tuesday was the pair of Keara Rutz and Erika Foreman in the Girls 14U division. They defeated Camryn Carfino (L.A.) and Devon Newberry (Santa Monica).

In other action, Ventura’s Sammy Slater and Megan Muret of Encinitas knocked off Santa Barbara’s Laurel Kujan and Alexia Inman of Manhattan Beach in the Girls 16s final.

The 18s title was won by Madalyn Roh and Skylar Caputo. They were quarterfinalists at the Santa Barbara Women’s Open two weeks ago.

The Rox Volleyball Cal Cup is scheduled for Aug. 29.
