Perera, Powell take 2nds at Brymer Memorial tennis tourney

Santa Barbara junior tennis standouts Kento Perera and Jackson Powell finished as runners-up in their respective age-division doubles competitions at the Mary Brymer Memorial Tournament in Irvine.

Perera made it to the Boys 16 doubles final with partner Karapet Vardanyan and fell to Austin DiGiulio/Benjamin Gollin, 8-4, at the Level 2 tournament at the Woodbridge Tennis Club.

In the 18s doubles title match, Powell and Alex Kuperstein lost to top-seeded David Higgins/Connor Rapp, 8-3. The third-seeded Powell/Kuperstein defeated No. 2 Sreeganesh Manoharan/Roman Shenkiryk in the semifinals, 8-6.

In singles, Perera took third in the Boys 18s division, beating Austin DiGiulio, 6-1, 6-2. The top seed dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to No. 3 Weiyi Zhu in the semifinals. Gollin, the fifth seed, defeated Zhu in the final, 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 (5).
