Cole Schoenwetter turned in a solid pitching performance, and the Goleta Valley South Little League 10-Under All Stars forced a second game for the So Cal North Sub-Regional title by defeating previously undefeated Encino, 9-3, on Wednesday in Long Beach.
The two teams will square off for the tournament championship Thursday.
Schoenwetter allowed only two hits and no earned runs in four innings on the mound. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out five.
Goleta Valley South’s gave Schoenwetter plenty of support early, scoring six runs in the first three innings. GVS got RBI singles from Caden Hodina, Sutter Locatelli, Aidan Mandel, Nicky Fell and Gino Darke. Schoenwetter added to the offense with a run-scoring sacrifice fly.
Darke had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3. He also scored a run on Evon Week’s single during a three-run fifth inning.
