GVS 10U Stars make history, win sub-division title

The Goleta Valley South 10-Under All Stars celebrate their sub-division championship in Long Beach.

The Goleta Valley South Little League 10-Under All Stars wrote a new chapter in their incredible postseason.

Goleta Valley South overcame an early 2-0 deficit and defeated Encino 6-5 to win the So Cal North Sub-Division 3 championship on Thursday night in Long Beach. It’s the first sub-division title in this age group in league history.

Goleta Valley South, which beat Encino twice to win the title, now advances to the So Cal Division championship in Corona.

Nicky Fell threw three solid innings in relief and had two hits to lead GVS. Fell did not allow an earned run, gave up two hits and didn’t walk a batter.

Encino, which beat GVS earlier in the tournament, scored two runs in the first inning. GVS tallied a run in the bottom of the first and tied the score at 2-2 in the third inning.

GVS took the lead in the fifth inning, scoring four runs. Nathan Lynk had a RBI double, Lance Bermudes drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Gino Darke hit a two-run single.

Evon Weeks went 3-for-3 and Calvin Wipf had a clutch hit in the history-making win.

Goleta Valley South will play So Cal South Sub-Division champion Highland Little League of San Bernardino in a best-of-three series for the state title.
