David Greer led the offensive attack Sunday afternoon for the Foresters in an 8-4 comeback win over the MLB Academy Barons in a California Collegiate League baseball game at UCSB’s Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.
Greer went 3-5, with 4 RBI and 3 runs to help Santa Barbara complete the series sweep of the Barons.
Santa Barbara found itself down 4-0 early, with starting pitcher Justin Camp struggling to contain the Barons through his first two innings of work.
Martin Teague got the offense going for the visitors with an RBI double to left to bring home Larry Barraza for the first run. Teague had a big day, going 3-5 with 3 RBI.
The Barons kept things rolling in the second inning, getting RBI doubles from Luke Wilkinson and Teague to go on top 4-0.
Santa Barbara started to show some signs of life in the bottom of the third. Greer and Dylan Paul had RBI singles to pull the Foresters to 4-3.
In the fourth, Greer singled to score Ryan Chandler and Michael Smith for the tying and go-ahead runs to make it 5-4. Jeremy Montalbano ripped a line drive to left field to bring home Greer.
Greer continued his hitting assault in the eighth, lacing a double down the left-field line to bring in John Holland. Lex Kaplan followed with an RBI single to the left-center gap to bring home Greer for the final run of the game.
Troy Cruz came in to to close things out in ninth for Santa Barbara, making quick work of the Barons with a 1-2-3 shut-down inning.
The Foresters improve their record to 27-6 on the year to maintain their position atop the California Collegiate League standings.
