Aiden Johson is mobbed at home plate after his second-inning grand slam in the championship game against Santa Paula.
The Goleta Valley South Little League 12-Under All Stars captured the District 63 championship with an 11-0 victory over Santa Paula on Monday night.
Aiden Johnson broke open a scoreless game with a grand slam in the second inning. Johnson finished the day with 2 hits and 6 RBI. Caden Vom Steeg and Nick Oakley added two hits each. Oakley had a 2-run homer to left field in the third inning.
Ian Oakley and Jackson Haskell combined for a no-hitter in the 4-inning game, shortened by mercy rule. Oakley, backed by exquisite infield defense, hurled three perfect frames, including four strike outs. Haskell closed the victory, inducing three groundouts.
GVS finished the district tournament with an 8-0 record, winning seven games by mercy rule. The team advances to the Sectional tournament in Lompoc, with their first game on Thursday, July 16.
