Four local teams prevail in first CBVA youth tourney

The California Beach Volleyball Association youth tournament season at East Beach kicked off Tuesday with doubles competition in four age divisions for boys and girls.

Four local teams came out on top on opening day. For the boys, the combination of Charlie MacNeil and Kyle Aitcheson captured the 14-under title. Ben Roach and partner Curren Malhotra were victorious in the 16U division.

On the girls side, Paige Doughty/Tiffany Medel were to top 12-under team, while Erika Foreman/Linnea Skinner took first place in the 16U division.

The tournament drew teams from as far away as Louisiana. Alexis Toney of Baton Rouge and Danna Milayne of Slidell, La., finished as runners-up in the 16U division. Arizona’s Shannon Shields and Nicole Hoff captured the 14U title.

The youth tournaments will continue for the next five Tuesdays.
