A 5-0 victory over the San Luis Obispo Blues on Sunday finished off the regular season for the Santa Barbara Foresters, who will now head to Wichita, Kansas to defend their NBC World Series title with a 35-7 record.
The Foresters end the regular season winning six straight games including a three-game sweep over the L.A. Brewers and a two-game wash of the Blues. The two wins over the Blues cemented the Foresters’ home record at UCSB’s Caesar Uyesaka Stadium in 2015 at 25-5.
More importantly, the Foresters won the California Collegiate League regular-season title by a wide margin. Santa Barbara is on top of the standings at 23-4 while second place Conejo stands at 17-9.
Santa Barbara pitching is putting the team in positions to win. The pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts in the shutout on Sunday. On Saturday, Glen Otto earned the victory in a 4-2 win for allowing two runs in seven innings with eight punchouts. Friday’s shutout was powered by seven strong innings from starting pitching Gary Cornish.
The NBC World Series tournament begins next weekend.
