After guiding Dos Pueblos to three straight Channel League baseball titles, Nick Katzenstein has stepped down as coach of the Chargers for family reasons.
He will be replaced by George Hedricks, a volunteer assistant in the baseball program. Hedricks works on campus as DP’s Resource Deputy. He is a member of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.
“I’m looking forward to it; it’s exciting,” Hedricks told KEYT-TV about his opportunity to coach the Chargers. “I’m ready for fall to come so we can get started.”
Hedricks returns starter pitchers Darby Naughton and Travis Craven and starting field players Dustin Demeter, Gio Macias, Colter Nisbet and Quinn Peacock. Naughton, Demeter and Macias were named to the Presidio Sports All-City Team.
Athletic director Dan Feldhaus said Hedricks is very familiar with the program.
“He knows the boys, he knows the program, so I’m very excited he’s going to continue what we’ve been doing the last couple of years,” said Feldhaus.
Katzenstein and his wife Melissa are welcoming their first child.
