Santa Barbara’s Dillan Bennett combined with Santa Cruz local Garrett Wilson and won the California Beach Volleyball Association Santa Cruz Men’s Open at Main Beach over the weekend.
Bennett-Wilson defeated team of Tyler Hinz (Santa Cruz) and Connor Hastings (San Luis Obispo), 28-17, in the title match. Bennett, the recently named girls varsity volleyball coach at Dos Pueblos High, and Wilson earn their “AAA” ratings.
In other beach volleyball action over the weekend, two-time Santa Barbara Women’s Open champions and cousins Katie Spieler and Torrey Van Winden won the CBVA Zuma Beach Open title, beating Jacqueline Wood and Terri Del Conti in the final. Spieler, a member of the University of Hawaii beach volleyball team and a Dos Pueblos alum, and Van Winden, a UCLA commit from Napa, have two titles and third place in CBVA events this summer.
