The UCSB women’s basketball team has picked up a transfer of Mississippi.
Sarah Porter, a former All-State and All-San Diego County guard at Horizon Christian Academy in San Diego, is leaving Ole Miss to join the Gauchos this fall. She will redshirt the 2015-16 season and make her debut in the fall of 2016, per NCAA transfer rules.
“We are thrilled to have Sarah join our UCSB family,” first-year UCSB coach Bonnie Henrickson said. “She is a talented and driven player with a very impressive work ethic. Sarah was well coached in high school by Vicki Carrington and in AAU by Marlon Wells. We look forward to her being a difference maker in our program.”
A San Diego native, Porter was a standout guard at Horizon Christian Academy, leading the Panthers to a pair of CIF Championships and to a Southern Regional Final. In her senior year, she averaged 17.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game, and was named to the Max Preps and Cal-High Sports Division 5 all-state teams. Porter was also voted to the San Diego County Senior All-Star Team.
She played one season at Ole Miss.
