The Santa Barbara PONY League Shetland division 6U All Star team played this past weekend in the PONY Section tournament in Camarillo, CA. The Shetland division of PONY baseball is for 4, 5 and 6 year-old boys and girls, and uses a pitching machine to deliver pitches to batters.
The team played two games on Saturday, June 20. The first game was played against a team from the North Valley PONY league in Granada Hills, and Santa Barbara won the game 6-3. The second game played that same afternoon was against a team from the Greenfield PONY league, near Bakersfield, CA, and the Santa Barbara team won the game 18-2.
The Santa Barbara Shetland team was the number one seed following Saturday’s games for the tournament games played on Sunday. Santa Barbara played the Ventura Coast PONY team in a semi-final game played on Sunday, June 21, and won 2-1. The championship game was played between Santa Barbara and North Valley on Sunday afternoon, and Santa Barbara won 8-6.
The Section Tournament Championship title is the first for a Santa Barbara PONY Shetland division team. The Shetland division was introduced last season by the Santa Barbara PONY baseball league.
The team now advances this week to the PONY Region tournament in Santa Clarita, CA. The Shetland team enters the tournament as the number one seed from the Camarillo PONY Section tournament.
The players and coaches will also be recognized at Thursday’s SB Foresters game vs. Conejo Oaks.
