Back-to-back homers and strong pitching highlighted Goleta Valley South Little League’s 14-4 victory over Dos Pueblos Little League on Sunday in a 10U game.
Pitchers Gino Darke and Aidan Mandel combined to hold DPLL to its four runs while Evon Weeks and Mandel connected for consecutive home runs in the fifth inning. Lance Bermudes’ glove was a difference maker as was him arm. The center fielder completed a double play with a strong throw to catcher Cole Schoenwetter.
Dos Pueblos took the game’s first lead in the first inning thanks to a home run by leadoff hitter Joe Talarico.
In the second inning Nicky Fell delivered a go-ahead two-run single for GVSLL.
Emmett Speake, Weeks, Mandel, and Schoenwetter led the team with two hits each. Schoenwetter added 4 RBIs.
“This was a battle between two great teams. GV hit the ball hard and played a tough defense,” commented GVSLL coach Ryan Fell. “Every guy on our team hit.”
