Goleta Valley South erupted for nine runs in the second inning en route to a 10-5 win over Saticoy in a Little League District 63 10U All-Stars Tournament game on Sunday.
Saticoy jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. But GVSLL scored one run of its own in the first on a solo home run by Aidan Mandel.
Goleta Valley South tacked on a total of nine runs in the second inning with a two-run double, an error and four singles.
Pitchers Nicky Fell and Cole Schoenwetter closed out the last four innings, allowing just one hit and combining for 10 strikeouts.
One Saticoy run crossed the plate in the top half of the sixth, making the score 10-5. But Schoenwetter induced a strikeout to end the game.
Goleta Valley South hitting standouts included Evon Weeks (3-3 with 2 RBIs), Schoenwetter (3-4) and Mandel (3-4 with a home run).
Goleta Valley South plays Santa Paula on Wednesday, July 1 at 5 p.m. at Foothill Little League in Ventura.
