San Marcos couldn’t overcome West Torrance in a CIF wild-card game on Tuesday, falling 11-1 in the Division 4 playoffs.

The Royals, who placed third in the Channel League, were on the road at West Torrance, which came in third in the Pioneer League. The Warriors advance to Thursday’s first round against Sunbelt League champion Temescal Canyon.

Veronica Villarreal and Caitlin Tucker both were 2 for 3 for San Marcos. Aliyah Huerta-Leipner drove home the Royals one run with an RBI double in the sixth inning.

San Marcos put runners on base in every inning without getting much to show for it.

“Unfortunately, we were unable to get on track in this game. We hit the ball well, but not consistently, against a very athletic West team,” reported Royals head coach Jeff Swann. “We again had one or more hits in every inning, but could not string the right hits together.”

San Marcos finishes its season with a record of 16-11 overall. The Royals will return 10 players next season.

“Despite the loss, our kids earned some valuable playoff time and the future looks bright,” Swann said.
