The Carpinteria baseball team was defeated by St. Bonaventure by a score of 4-0 during a Tri-Valley League matchup in Ventura on Wednesday afternoon. The Seraphs secured the victory over the Warriors behind strong pitching, good defense and timely hitting.
Carpinteria starter Diego Contreras suffered the loss after limiting the potent St. Bonaventure attack. During the game, the Warriors left 10 men on base and missed two different bases loaded opportunities during the 3rd and 7th innings.
“The team played well enough to win with Contreras doing his job by limiting their offense and our defense turning two nice double plays to end rallies,” said Warriors head coach Pat Cooney. “I thought we were a timely hit or two away from really changing the game.”
Carpinteria was led by Javier Jasso, who reached base on 3 out of 4 plate appearances, Nick Walker went 1/3 and Jorge Arroyo picked up a hit for the Warriors.
With the defeat, Carpinteria falls to 7-15 overall, 4-5 league on the season. The Warriors will face the Seraphs in a rematch on Friday in Carpinteria.
