Cate’s baseball team suffered an 11-0 loss to Fillmore on Wednesday in a Frontier League match.
The Rams struggled to put anything together against the first-place Flashes. Only Dean Smith and Duffy Montgomery recorded hits for Cate. Humza Khurshid, Smith and James Chang pitched for Cate.
“The final score looks lopsided, but it felt much closer,” said Rams assistant coach Dave Soto.
The Rams trailed 3-0 after four innings and put runners in scoring position in two of the first four frames. But Fillmore was able to open the gap in the later innings.
“Our defense was improved, but it wasn’t at the level we need it to be. Our backs are now against the wall and we hope to fight out the rest of the season with hopes of making the playoffs,” Soto added.
Cate and Fillmore play again on Friday at Cate at 3:30 p.m.
