The Dos Pueblos girls junior varsity sand volleyball team finished second at the Interscholastic Volleyball League JV Tournament on Saturday at Dockweiler Beach in El Segundo.
The champions of the IBVL’s Channel Division beat Mater Dei before falling to Mira Costa in the final.
“I am so proud of how the girls have competed all year long, said DP co-coach Ruth McGolpin “To come in third out of 20 teams in the JV programs, is a testament to their hard work.”
The Charger JV team consisted of Lauren Buie, Rockey Vyesatea, Morgan Gomez, Olivia Epstein, Loiveya Leon and Chloe Pena.
DP’s top varsity pair of Audrey Baldwin and Danica Minnich “competed hard in all their matches and in the end came up short. But they played the best sand volleyball as a pair this entire season,” said McGolpin. The team lost to No. 4-ranked Edison (28-22), beat No. 2 Valencia (28-13) and fell to unranked Redondo Union (28-23 in pool play. The team did not advance to the playoffs.
Fifty-five teams compete in the varsity division and 20 in the junior varsity division.
