Westlake defeated San Marcos on Tuesday in the first round of the Division 1 CIF playoffs. The Royals were swept 25-16, 25-22, 25-23.
“Westlake played very well and didn’t make a lot of errors,” explained Royals head coach Jon Newton. “They we in system a lot and put the ball away when they had the chance. We had a slow start and started to figure out how to stop them in the second and third game but not enough to pull out a win.”
Jake Pighetti and Ben Hauschild shared the team lead in kills with seven each. Ian Mclain had four.
“Want to give a lot of thanks to my team for the hard work they put in and making my first season nothing short of amazing,” Newton said.
Westlake advances to face Foothill in Thursday’s second round.
