Laguna Blanca was seeded third in its division, and Santa Barbara High and Carpinteria received home matches for the first round of the CIF-SS boys volleyball playoffs. The pairings were announced Friday.
A total of eight South Coast area teams will be participating in the playoffs, which begin Saturday with wild-card matches. Santa Barbara High will be joined by San Marcos and Dos Pueblos in the Division 1 bracket. Carpinteria, Cate and Bishop Diego are in Division 3 and Laguna Blanca and Providence compete in Division 5.
CIF BOYS VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFF BRACKETS
Bishop Diego kicks off the postseason with a wild-card match at Salesian in East L.A. on Saturday. The winner plays at third-seeded Arroyo Grande in the first round on Tuesday, May 12.
Laguna Blanca, the Condor League champion, opens at home Tuesday against the winner of the wild-card match between Liberty Christian and Calvary Murrieta. The Owls (19-7) advanced to the semifinals last year.
Santa Barbara (18-7), which went through the Channel League undefeated, takes on Harvard Westlake in its Division 1 opener on Tuesday. Harvard Westlake (17-8) is the No. 4 team out of the Mission League.
San Marcos and Dos Pueblos both got tough first-round assignments. The Royals (14-11) travel to Marmonte League runner-up Westlake (22-4) while the Chargers (12-6) visit perennial powerhouse and Bay League champion Mira Costa (21-4) on Tuesday.
Tri-Valley League-champion Carpinteria (13-2) hosts Santa Monica (8-17, Ocean No.3) in a Division 3 opener. The Warriors are coming off their first league volleyball title since 2001. Cate (9-4, TVL No. 2) makes its D3 playoff debut at Culver City (17-12, Ocean No. 2).
Providence (9-6, Condor No. 2) is at Oakwood (19-5, Libery No. 1) in a Division 5 opener.
Santa Ynez won the Los Padres League to earn a first-round home match in Division 4. The Pirates (17-9) play Rio Hondo Prep (17-11, Prep No. 3).
The second-round matches are scheduled for Thursday, May 14; the quarterfinals on Saturday, May 16 and the semifinals on Wednesday, May 20. The finals are Saturday, May 23 at Cerritos College.
