Dos Pueblos went 3-3 over the weekend and finished third in the silver bracket at the Redondo Union Tournament.
Eli Wopat had a big tournament, posting 42 kills, 10 blocks, 19 digs and 4 aces. Setter Mark Raphael handed out 113 assists, with 17 digs, eight kills, four blocks and four aces. CD Sullivan had 25 kills, Will Parker had 45 digs.
The Chargers closed out the tournament with a straight sets win (25-19, 25-22) over Long Beach Poly. Setter Mark Raphael spread the ball around nicely with 24 assists and 2 aces.
Earlier Saturday, DP fell to Alemany in three sets (25-11, 14-25, 15-11) and Palos Verdes (25-15, 25-17).
On Friday, DP opened against a tough Laguna Beach team and fell 25-15, 25-16
The Chargers went three sets with Carlsbad and fell 25-23, 16-25, 15-10. They defeated Oaks Christian, 25-19, 25-22, going on a three-point run to close out the second set. Sullivan and Wopat led the attack.
“The boys got a ton of valuable reps this weekend in preparation for the Division 1 CIF Playoffs,” DP coach Ehren Hug said. “We know that we are going to have to bring a lot more than what we showed this weekend. “I believed it humbled us, so we can go back into our gym and continue to push, improve, and become better competitors.”
The Chargers are 11-6 overall and 4-3 in the Channel League. They play Ventura at home on Tuesday for Senior Night.
