Cate gave Culver City a battle before falling, 25-16, 25-20, 25-22, in a CIF Divison 3 boys volleyball first-round playoff match on Tuesday.
“I think we played really, really well against a tough team,” Cate coach Greg Novak said. “We made too many unforced errors, but we made a comeback in each set. It was just a little bit too late.”
Morgan Pierce had 12 kills and Oliver Welch added 10 to lead the Cate attack. Novak also cited Parker Matthews for his tough serving.
“It was a good note to end on,” Novak said the team’s strong play. I’m proud of this team. They started the season shaky and ended with a lot of good wins.”
