In the second five-set match between rivals in a week, Carpinteria again outlasted Bishop Diego on Tuesday 25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 23-25, and 15-17 in a Tri-Valley League match.
Outside hitter Victor Saldana made a key play for the Warriors in the final set, digging a ball with his foot to keep a point alive that Carpinteria would win. Saldana finished with 16 kills.
“It was a shift of energy and there was no stoping us then,” said Warriors head coach Dino Garcia.
Mason Picerni dominated the net for the Warriors with 18 kills and six blocks.
Luca Jordano led the way with 23 kills and 16 digs for the Cardinals. John Harris finished with 15 kills and 14 digs while Austin Bohnett tallied 13 kills and 19 digs. Mike Agnoli hammered down 12 kills and Brolin Parris dished out 48 assists and popped up 17 digs.
“We played a great high school volleyball match,” said head coach Jason Donnelly. “Both teams left it all on the floor and unfortunately for us Carp made a couple more plays than we did.”
Bishop Diego tied for 3rd place in Tri-Valley League and heads toward the playoffs.
The Warriors, who have clinched their first league championship since 2001, improve to 10-1 in league play and face Malibu on Wednesday in their final regular-season match.
