The Laguna Blanca boys tennis team defeated Templeton 9-9 (76-73) during a CIF wild-card matchup on Tuesday afternoon.
“I’m extremely proud of our guys and the way they battled for every single game in this match,” said Owls head coach Trevor Thorpe.
Laguna was led by the strong play of its doubles teams throughout the match. The duos of Henry Farrell paired with Ethan Tyng and Martin Barnick matched with Atty Roddick each went 3-0 for the Owls. In the second round, the tandem of Cooper Farrell and Jason Barnick picked up a clutch win against the Eagles No. 1 team.
In singles play, Phillip Hicks and Alex Furukawa each picked up victories against Templeton’s No. 3 singles player to bring home the win for Laguna.
“Even if it doesn’t seem important in the first round of a match, as coaches, we often point out how every game can matter in the end,” added coach Thorpe. “Overall, it’s good to see the guys taking that to heart.”
With the victory, the Owls have now won 12 out of their last 13 matches while improving to 14-3 overall. As an at-large team, Laguna hits the road to face 8th seeded Buckley tomorrow afternoon.
