Carpinteria High volleyball player Mason Picerni and Dos Pueblos softball’s Jade Sinskul were announced as Athletes of the Week at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon held at Harry’s Cafe on Monday.
Picerni was a force in the Warriors’ rivalry win over Bishop Diego last week that clinched a Tri-Valley League championship for Carpinteria. It’s the first TVL title for Carpinteria boys volleyball since 2001. Picerni came up huge in the match, recording 18 kills and five blocks. In the deciding fourth set, Picerni earned 10 points for the Warriors.
Sinskul was a big reason why Dos Pueblos swept all three of its games last week. It was a gratifying run as the Chargers clinched their second straight Channel League championship on Friday.
The DP catcher socked two home runs in a 5-2 non-league win over Rio Mesa and had RBI hits in both of the Chargers’ two league victories.
Honorable mentions were SBCC baseball’s Justin Bruce, UCSB baseball’s Justin Jacome, San Marcos Lacrosse’ Justin Lehman, Carpinteria baseball’s Javier Jasso, UCSB Track & Field’s Oscar Pearson, San Marcos softball’s Cara Christian, SBCC Swimming’s Rachelle Visser and UCSB runner Dani Moreno.
