Amanda Berke and Edda von Hodenberg earned a State berth in doubles on Saturday on Day 2 of the WSC Women’s Tennis Tournament at Ventura College. Six Vaqueros have qualified for the State Individual Tourney on April 23-26 at The Ojai.
The qualifiers are Marcela Massaglia,, Tess Kolkman and Maddie Seeds in singles and doubles, along with Zionne Lee, Berke and Von Hodenberg in doubles.
Seeds qualified in singles by beating Lauren Voiers of Glendale 6-0, 6-1 in Saturday’s back draw. Lee fell to No. 7 seed Meg Mooradian of Glendale 6-0, 6-4 and didn’t qualify.
In the doubles back draw, Berke and Von Hodenberg punched their ticket to State by beating Candace Nito/Cristina Ortiz of Ventura. SBCC’s Gabriela McDaniel and Jackie Wilson lost to Wiebe and Scheck of Ventura.
In the main singles draw, Kolkman (11-1) suffered her first loss of the year to No. 1 Mayra Jovic of Santa Monica 6-1, 6-0. Massaglia also fell in the quarterfinals to Bailey Sindle of Ventura 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.
In the doubles main draw, Massaglia/Seeds lost to Amy Shigenaga/Liz Sanchez of Glendale in the quarterfinals. Kolkman/Lee lost to Sindle and Yannick Garcia of Ventura 7-5, 7-5.
The State Tournament will be played April 23-26 at The Ojai.
The Southern Cal Dual Team playoffs will be announced on Sunday and Santa Barbara, the WSC runner-up, is expected to get its first bid since 2012.
