Jessica Escalante won the WSC javelin title and qualified for the finals in the 100 and 200 on Friday in the WSC Women’s Track & Field Prelims at Ventura College.
Glendale grabbed the early lead in the team competition with 45 points. Canyons is second with 44, followed by SBCC and Bakersfield with 20 apiece. The WSC Championships will be hosted by SBCC at La Playa Stadium on Friday. The field events start at noon and the running events at 2 p.m.
Escalante won the javelin at 35.02 meters (114-11) and Hailey Brundy was fourth at 30.47. Juliette Alliaume was sixth in the high jump at 1.50.
Olivia Loy qualified in the 200 and 400 while Escalante advanced in the 100 and 200. Loy had the best time of the day in the 400 (57.57). That was her season best as well as the fifth-best time in the State this year and the No. 5 all-time best at SBCC.
Loy was second in the 200 at 25.24 and Escalante was sixth. Escalante, a sophomore from Dos Pueblos High, took second in the 100 in 12.42. Marla Bonser qualified in the 200 and 400.
Alyssa Garrett was third in the 400 hurdles at 1:08.28.
