SWM: Warren, Visser lead Vaqs at WSC Championships

Katherine Warren rallied to capture the 500 freestyle on Thursday and Rachelle Visser won the 200 IM as SBCC grabbed the lead on the first day of the WSC Women’s Swimming Championships at the Ventura Aquatic Center.

Warren, a freshman from New Jersey, sprinted past Leanna Bramble of Hancock in the last 50 meters to win the 500 free. She shaved five seconds off her PR with a 5:20.51 effort.

Visser won the 200 IM in 2:09.08. Teammate Alaina Chela took second and blasted her previous best with a time of 2:13.97. Autumn Lovett finished fourth in 2:21.99.

SBCC piled up 74 points in two relays, winning the 400 medley relay in 4:09.19 and taking second in the 200 free relay. Lovett led off the 400 medley unit, followed by Ashley Macedo, Chela and Visser.

The Vaqueros lead the 10-school competition with 183 points. Cuesta is second at 148, followed by Ventura (100) and Bakersfield (94). The meet continues on Friday and Saturday with prelims in the morning and finals in the evening.

“It was a good start, we did a lot better in the evening finals,” noted SBCC coach Chuckie Roth.
