San Marcos dominated Orcutt Academy on Tuesday in a non-league dual meet.
Maija Ninness’ record-breaking display in the 100 backstroke race sparked a 120-39 victory and the San Marcos girls swim team maintained its undefeated record at 7-0. For the boys team, Spencer Wood and Chuck Sweeney provided a spark by winning multiple events en route to a 114-39 result.
Ninness also came up victorious in the 100 freestyle race. Paige Hauschild and Olivia Smith contributed with two wins apiece.
Megan Bergthold finished with a season best time of 5:30.27 in the 500 freestyle.
Spencer Wood won the 500 freestyle race and also joined Sean Apsey, Sean Hopkins, and Taylor Lund in taking the victory for the 200 Medley Relay. Chuck Sweeney similarly won the 100 backstroke and combined with Billy Schulte, Miles Cole, and Alex Zauner to win the 200 freestyle relay.
Zauner won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle on the day.
“Both Spencer Wood and Chuck Sweeney swam great today,” said coach Jeff Ashton. “Both of them were doing new events and I thought performed very well.”
San Marcos will travel to Thousand Oaks to swim on Friday.
