Veronika Gulvin was too much to handle for Ventura on Tuesday in a Channel League game won by the Chargers, 8-0.
Gulvin allowed four hits and struck out 14 batters in the complete-game shutout. Ventura’s Audrey Esakoff held the Chargers scoreless until Dos Pueblos scored first in the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Chargers added one in the sixth inning and five more in the seventh.
While Ali Milam launched a solo home run, it was catcher Jade Sinskul who powered the offense. Sinskul was 3 for 4 and had a pair of extra-base hits including a two-run triple in the seventh inning. The Chargers actually had two two-run triples in the same inning as Kai Uyesaka scored Sam Sander and Michelle Romero with a three-bagger earlier in the frame.
The two teams play again on Friday in their last meeting of the season. Ventura defeated Dos Pueblos 3-2 in the first meeting, DP’s only Channel League loss. The Chargers improved to 11-3, 4-1 while Ventura stands at 6-6, 3-2.
