San Marcos’ five-run fourth inning did the trick in Thursday’s Channel League game with Ventura as the Royals came out on top, 5-4.
Veronica Villarreal’s two-run single and Cara Christian’s RBI triple highlighted the Royals’ big inning. Hailee Rios pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and two earned runs allowed.
It was San Marcos’ first league win of the season other than the three forfeits from Santa Barbara.
“This was an important league win for us with a lot on the line and every team member stepped up and contributed,” reported Royals head coach Jeff Swann.
The Royals (14-7, 4-5) play Carpinteria on Friday in a non-league game.
