San Marcos banged out 10 hits against Buena, but the Royals committed four errors and dropped a 9-3 decision in a Channel League softball game on Tuesday.
Following a week with no games, I was pleased how we hit the ball but we were not sharp defensively, committing four errors and allowing 7 unearned runs,” San Marcos coach Jeff Swann said. “We need to have better defensive and overall game focus, and I’m confident our kids will respond with a better effort going forward.”
San Marcos (12-6, 3-4) was leading 1-0 after three innings before Buena (11-8, 4-1) erupted for four runs in the fourth. The Royals came back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 5-3 game. The Bulldogs, however, broke the game open with four more runs in the sixth.
Hailee Rios, Hailey Fryklund and Alex Pitchford were all 2 for 3, each with a double and one RBI.
The Royals play at Hueneme on Wednesday and travel to Buena on Friday.
