Starting pitcher Diego Contreras earned the victory and David Martinez finished the job for a save in Carpinteria’s 7-2 victory over Santa Clara on Wednesday in a Tri-Valley League game.
The Warriors fell behind 2-0 in the first inning but rallied for the win. They took the lead for good in the third inning when Contreras crossed the plate soon after one of Javier Jasso’s two doubles. Jasso was 3 for 4 with an RBI. Sal Delgado added two hits and two RBI.
“We overcame some early shakiness and some factors outside our control,” said Warriors head coach Pat Cooney. “The defense really backed the pitchers who struggled through to get the job done. We are getting contributions from the whole group: starters, bench players, and role players.”
Contreras pitched the first five innings before Martinez finished with a pair of scoreless frames.
Carpinteria, winners of two straight league contests, improves to 3-4 in the TVL. Santa Clara drops to 2-9. The same two teams play in Oxnard on Friday.
