Dos Pueblos’ 5-4 victory over Ventura on Tuesday has created a three-way tie for first place in the Channel League standings. The Chargers, Cougars and Santa Barbara High are all 3-2.
The Chargers scored runs in each of the final four innings to top the Cougars at Scott O’Leary Field, capped by Chris Noggle scoring on a sacrifice fly by Quinn Peacock in the bottom of the sixth inning. Luke Coffey scored Gio Macias in the fifth inning on another sacrifice fly.
Travis Craven got the unexpected start for the Chargers and began with three scoreless innings. He ran into trouble in the fourth inning but Michael Boelter and Austin Bull didn’t allow an earned run in three innings of effective relief. Boelter was credited for the victory.
Dos Pueblos, which scored five runs on six hits, was helped by three Ventura errors and three walks.
Ventura’s starting pitcher Travis Hawkins finished with 8 strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
The two teams face each other in Ventura on Friday.
