Sophomore Sal Delgado stepped up to the challenge and pitched Carpinteria to a 6-1 baseball victory over Bishop Diego in a Tri-Valley League game in Carpinteria.
The Warriors lost to Bishop on Wednesday
Delgado scattered four hits, struck out six, walked one and allowed one earned run in a complete-game performance.
Malcolm Gordon paced the Warrior offense, going 3-for-4, with a double and a RBI. Jonah Spach and Diego Contreras each doubled and had two hits.
The Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when David Martinez lined a two-out two-run single to right field, driving in Jose Carrillo and Delgado with the eventual winning run.

“The games continue to test our mettle,” Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney said. “Success in key moments by more than one player will really help to build confidence. Sal was really calm and showed leadership in the tough spots in the game. The whole group was invested and had the right energy to beat a good Bishop squad.”
Carpinteria is 5-12 overall and 2-4 in the TVL; Bishop is 6-9, 2-4.
