Erik Andrade pounded a season-high 15 kills and Robert Gulvin added 13 on Wednesday night, leading SBCC to a 25-22, 27-25, 25-17 men’s volleyball sweep at L.A. Trade Tech.
Andrade, a 6-3 freshman from Dana Point, hit .312 and Gulvin, a 6-5 freshman middle blocker from Dos Pueblos High, turned in a sparkling .733 percentage.
The Vaqueros improved to 11-5 overall and 6-3 in the WSC. The Beavers fell to 0-14 and 0-10.
“We had a different lineup and we were kind of sluggish in the first set,” noted coach Matt Jones. “Our blocking and defense weren’t where we wanted them to be.
“In the second set, we got off to a strong start, then had a lapse in the middle before closing it out in extra time. It all came together in the third set – serving, passing, hitting and defense.”
Kyle Smiley had a season-best 46 assists and Kiel DeTurk made nine digs. Casey Alper added seven digs and three aces.
The Vaqueros travel to Torrance on Friday for a second-place battle with El Camino at 6 p.m.
