Stephen McCaffery has experienced a banner senior year at Laguna Blanca School.
After a record-breaking, All-CIF season in football, CIF playoff appearances in football and basketball and a solid season in lacrosse, McCaffery was honored as Laguna’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon.
The son of Danielle and Dr. John McCaffery carries a 4.42 grade-point average with a class load that includes Advanced Placement physics, English Literature, comparative politics in government and French. Additonally, he is the editor-in-chief of the Laguna Blanca award-winning campus newspaper The Fourth Estate. McCaffery is an AP Scholar and a recipient of the school’s Headmaster Pin. His academic interests include chemistry, math, physics and engineering.
Following a family tradition, McCaffery is headed to Washington & Lee University in Virginia. He plans to play football and hopes to become the team’s quarterback. As quarterback for Laguna Blanca, he set numerous passing records and led the Owls to the Division 1 eight-man football quarterfinals. He earned All-CIF and team MVP honors. He also was the basketball team’s MVP.
McCaffery’s other school activities include stage band and student government — he is the ASB vice president.
Outside of school, McCaffery earned his Eagle Scout badge.
