Sam Metzger was the day’s top player in a 397-405 victory for San Marcos over visiting Long Beach Wilson at La Cumbre Country Club.
Metzger’s 76 led the Royals, who all shot 82 or under. Metzger, a CIF State qualifier last season as a freshman, is coming back from injury. Each stroke counted as Poly’s entire team shot 83 or under. Niels Anderson’s 78 matched Poly’s low scorer Nick Gregor.
Chad Visser (79), Bennett Reichard (82) and Chris Wong (82) filled out San Marcos’ score.
Royals coach Aaron Solis called it a great win for the Royals against a perennially strong team in Long Beach Wilson (7-4).
The match started out in rainy conditions until the skies cleared about half way through the front nine. Solis said scores improved on the back nine.
