Manny Manzone shot a 1-over 72 on Monday but his teammates had a tough time at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale and finished third in WSC Men’s Golf No. 8.
Brett Patton added a 78 for the Vaqueros, who totaled 392. Canyons won its sixth WSC tourney with 381 strokes, beating Glendale by three shots. Canyons leads the conference with a 53-3 record and the Vaqueros are second at 48-8.
“This is a tougher course than we’re used to and it got the best of us,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “We didn’t putt well and we had a tough time finding the fairways. We weren’t at our best today.”
Alejandro Nicolini of Hancock was the medalist at 70 and Manzone tied for third. Manzone is averaging 72.0 in his last five rounds.
“I was proud of Manny, he’s been getting better and better and has turned into a steady player,” said Melendez.
The Vaqueros will compete in WSC No. 9 on Monday at Olivas Links in Ventura.
